The Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) provides comprehensive digital evidence services to Enforcement and Market Oversight, offering strategic forensic investigative techniques for the acquisition, preservation, recovery, and presentation of digital evidence.
The Forensic Science Regulator Act (2021) Code of Practice requires the regulation of forensic science activity (FSA), undertaken as part of criminal proceedings, to operate effective quality management processes and procedures, meeting the requirements of the code. Compliance is demonstrated by having accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025. To fulfil the requirements for ISO17025 accreditation, the Quality Management Team is recruiting an individual to assist with the implementation and delivery of a quality management system.
What will you be doing?
- Liaise with Investigation Case Teams to provide strategic direction for digital forensic techniques in the recovery, processing, and reporting of evidence.
- Take responsibility for drafting (delegated or otherwise) all forms of documents (including witness statements, statutory notices, technical reports) and correspondence with subjects, their legal representatives, and witnesses, ensuring quality assurance on cases.
- Attend court to give evidence as required.
- Collect digital evidence/material including desktops, laptops, storage media, and mobile devices during onsite visits, including search warrants, carrying out detailed evidential analysis and making recommendations.
- Train and coach colleagues when required and be a member of expert groups when appropriate.
- Meet with external parties such as regulated firms or their legal representatives in relation to requests for information.
- Attend and contribute to knowledge sharing events and identify opportunities for knowledge sharing, including being a member of expert groups.
Experience required
- Prior experience with Computer Forensic examination and imaging various forms of electronic media such as phones, laptops, desktops, and hard drives.
- Experience with forensic tools such as XWAYS, FTK, Cellebrite, AXIOM, and Nuix, and network analysis.
- Experience in statement writing relating to the imaging work completed to a criminal court standard.
- Experience with cryptocurrency investigations.
- Experience in regulatory investigations or litigation; investigations involving serious fraud or other complex financial crime; criminal cases.
- An advanced knowledge of IT systems and Networks in a Forensic environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experienced in presenting technical concepts to a variety of recipients, orally and in writing.
- Experience of giving evidence in court or tribunal.
- Thorough understanding of the FSR Code of Practice and ISO 17025.
- Experience of working on criminal cases.
- Experience of attending search warrants.
