MTC’s vision is to develop a training capability that embeds adaptable knowledge, skills and behaviours to future‑proof UK manufacturing. The Engineering Trainer role will manage and develop a comprehensive and innovative teaching and learning experience in practical and theoretical skills within current apprenticeship standards, delivering high quality technical training to small groups through face‑to‑face or online learning. The role also includes developing softer skills, providing constructive feedback and recording learning impact.

Key Activities

  • Effective delivery of mechanical knowledge and practical subjects at levels 2, 3, HTC/HNC – L4, developing independent learners
  • Practical delivery of Hand Fitting, Assembly, Turning, Milling and CNC programming/operating
  • Enable apprentice progression toward successful completion
  • Manage physical learning resources and teaching spaces to ensure training and assessment are achieved within the guided learning hours
  • Create learning content and develop resources, schemes‑of‑work and assessment materials
  • Identify and coordinate integration of relevant industry partner training offers into the apprenticeship scheme of work
  • Monitor the learning environment
  • Ensure learner workplace health, safety and welfare by working with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Knowledge

  • Strong background and experience of practical engineering (Mechanical / Electrical based, multi‑skilled preferred)
  • Experience of Milling, Turning, CNC Programming / Manufacturing
  • Understanding of assessment methods and techniques
  • Understanding of End Point Assessment
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to gain one
  • Recognised Assessor qualification or willingness to gain one (e.g., A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement)

Desirable

  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English (grade C or above)
  • Recognised Quality Assurance qualification (e.g., V1 or Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice)
  • Recognised coaching qualification
  • Higher Education qualification (Level 4 or above) in an Engineering discipline

Learners’ safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance. Shortlisted candidates are subject to safer recruitment screening, including: employment history check, right to work check, identity check, two references, qualification check, industry prohibitions check, public online activity search and enhanced DBS with children’s barred list check. Successful applicants will complete safeguarding and Prevent training, maintain safeguarding culture, adhere to the Code of Conduct and support the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
