We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach to join MTC Training. This will be a home-based role with national travel. MTC's vision is to develop a training capability that embeds adaptable knowledge, skills and behaviours that future proof UK manufacturing. Aligning technical content identified in MTC's core business to our apprenticeship and commercial (engineer upskilling) is at the core of our strategy.

As Apprenticeship Skills Coach your role is to ensure apprentices receive support, guidance and encouragement to succeed in their apprenticeship programme. The role will also require you to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application in the workplace with employers. You’ll also be involved in developing the new curriculum to ensure that it’s focussed on industry practice and the learner journey.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing a caseload of engineering and manufacturing apprentices
  • Monitoring the health, safety and welfare of apprentices
  • Providing end to end information, advice and guidance on skills development, End Point Assessment and career development
  • Monitoring and recording progress against the Standard to ensure apprentices are developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required prior to their planned end dates
  • Conducting regular documented progress reviews with apprentices and their employers as per funding rules
  • Monitoring apprentice off-the-job records
  • Completing any funding/MIS documentation such as Breaks in Learning, withdrawals on a timely basis
  • Planning and completing assessment of development competence qualifications
  • Planning and completing assessments of apprentice’s knowledge, skills and behaviours development, and building subsequent action plans for improvement where required
  • Using coaching methods in partnership with training centre colleagues and employers, to help apprentices develop and apply knowledge, skills and behaviours in their workplace
  • Building and maintaining relationships with apprentices and their employers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration ensuring that apprentices complete their apprenticeship within the planned duration
  • Providing regular caseload progress updates to the Leadership Team
  • Collaborating with Business Development colleagues to identify repeat and new business

We’re looking for an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach with a strong background and experience of engineering (mechanical or electrical or electronic, multi-skilled is preferable). You’ll be a customer and quality focused coach, who can operate across all MTC Training and client locations. This position will suit somebody who’s approachable, and able to handle issues with sensitivity and confidentiality. You’ll need to be able to demonstrate being able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and working both independently with own initiative and in a team.

We’re looking for somebody who is articulate, has strong communication skills, organisation skills and excellent attention to detail. Somebody who can promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people, is key.

You’ll also be required to have:

  • An understanding of assessment methods and techniques
  • An understanding of coaching methods
  • An understanding of engineering Apprenticeship Standards
  • An understanding of apprenticeship funding rules
  • An understanding of End Point Assessment
  • An understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty
  • Ideally have experience of using e-portfolios (ideally Smart Assessor)
  • Ideally have experience of using learner management systems, such as Pro Monitor

Essential Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willing to gain this
  • Recognised Assessor qualification, such as A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

Desirable:

  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSE's or equivalent in Maths and English grade C or above
  • Recognised Quality Assurance qualification, such as V1 or Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
  • Recognised coaching qualification
  • Higher qualification (level 4 or above) in an Engineering discipline
  • Digital training qualifications relevant to education. For example, Microsoft Learn badges

The successful applicant will be required to promptly complete training relating to safeguarding and prevent and is expected to undertake ongoing training in relation to children’s safety and wellbeing. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain our safeguarding culture and contribute to it by supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead and safeguarding team. The successful applicant will be required to adhere to our Code of Conduct and share our commitment to the welfare of children.
