MTC has a fantastic opportunity for a Newly Qualified Lawyer/Contracts Manager to join our dynamic Legal team as Legal Counsel. Reporting into the Senior Legal Counsel – Defence, you’ll support our growing defence business in a role offering variety, development and an opportunity to make an impact within an organisation that sits at the forefront of UK innovation, technology and skills development.
As Legal Counsel, you’ll provide accurate, pragmatic legal advice across the defence business, focusing on drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with customers, suppliers and partners, while influencing internal stakeholders to support strong, compliant decision‑making. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across multiple business units, helping shape outcomes that protect and advance MTC’s interests.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Advising internal stakeholders on legal risks and practical solutions.
- Supporting negotiations with customers, suppliers and partners.
- Working collaboratively across the legal team and wider organisation.
- Contributing to improved ways of working, including exploring the use of AI to enhance efficiency.
Who Are We Looking For:
We’re ideally looking for a Newly Qualified Lawyer from either a private practice or in‑house background, who has experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. You’ll have strong attention to detail, be pragmatic, risk‑based and comfortable working to deadlines. We also look for an enthusiastic team player eager to develop their career in a busy, varied, fast‑paced environment.
Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Intellectual property
- IT
- Data protection
- Defence contracting
- Construction
We will also consider applications from solicitor apprentices or experienced paralegals working towards qualifying and progressing to Legal Counsel.
Recruitment Process:
