The Job Purpose Is To:
- Attain a registered midwifery qualification.
- Communicate effectively with women and birthing people and their families throughout the preconception, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages under the supervision of the Registered Midwife (Practice Supervisor/Assessor).
- Diagnose pregnancy, assess and monitor women holistically throughout the preconception, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages through the use of a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive conclusions under the supervision of the Registered Midwife.
- Work towards achieving the NMC Standards of proficiency for midwives (2019) as outlined in the Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement.
- Determine and provide programmes of care and support for women and birthing people throughout the childbirth continuum which:
- are appropriate to the needs, contexts, culture and choices of the women, babies and their families;
- are made in partnership with women and birthing people;
- are ethical;
- are based on best evidence and clinical judgement;
- involve other practitioners when this will improve health outcomes.
- are appropriate for women's and birthing people's and fetus/baby's assessed needs, context and culture;
- promote continuing health and well-being;
- are evidence-based;
- are consistent with the management of risk;
- draw on the skills of others to optimise health outcomes and resource use.
- to an individual who is likely to have the requisite skills and experience to assist at the earliest possible time;
- supported by accurate, legible and complete information which contains the reasoning behind making the referral and describes their needs and preferences.
