Northwick Park/Ealing Hospital (London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust) provides a full range of services including a busy emergency department. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the care of patients in the Emergency Department (ED) and will have direct responsibility for the management of patients. A consultant is present on the shop floor between 8am and midnight, 7 days a week at EH and 8am–midnight from Tuesday–Thursday and 24hrs cover from Friday–Monday at NWP hospital. Outside these hours a middle‑grade doctor takes the lead role and works in close liaison with the nurse coordinator to ensure the department runs efficiently.

The role also includes participation in the Clinical Decision Unit for low risk patients presenting with acute chest pain, and a Rapid Assessment Triage to facilitate efficient processing of patients not requiring admission. The candidate will work up to 48 hours per week on a rostered basis covering the full 24‑hour period. Current rotas and terms of annual leave are available in the contract offer.

The Trust provides a comprehensive teaching programme mapped to the RCEM curriculum, including paediatric and adult emergency medicine topics. Teaching sessions include:

• Tuesdays: Consultant and specialist‑delivered emergency medicine teaching
• 1st Wednesday of the month: Paediatric emergency medicine teaching
• 2nd Wednesday of the month: Clinical case reports
• 3rd Wednesday of the month: Journal club
• 4th Wednesday of the month: Registrar‑delivered teaching
• Last Friday of the month: Radiology case reports

The junior doctor will also be expected to participate in ongoing Audit and Quality Improvement Projects within the department, with national, regional and local programmes ongoing.
