This opportunity is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and enter CESR training, subject to suitability by a faculty panel. The objective is to achieve Consultant rank after portfolio review by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. The post involves 6–9 months as a junior registrar (not leading the department) during which the doctor will attend an in-house leadership training program and become a senior ED decision maker. Following up to 12 months in the post, the post holder is expected to be a departmental leader (including at night) and would have the opportunity to enter the CESR training program, subject to selection via a local faculty group meeting. Doctors not leading the department at night by 18 months may be supported in finding more suitable NHS roles.

An excellent opportunity to join the Emergency Department at London North West University Hospitals NHS Trust (Northwick Park & Ealing Hospital). LNWH serves a diverse population across Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond with a team of over 8,200 clinical and support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Involvement in all aspects of patient care in the Emergency Department with direct responsibility for patient management.
  • Departments are staffed with 08:00 to 00:00 Emergency Medicine Consultant presence at both sites; additional night cover from Friday to Monday at Northwick Park Hospital. Outside these hours, a middle grade doctor leads with close liaison to the nurse coordinator to ensure efficient department operation.
  • Participate in Rapid Assessment Triage to facilitate processing of patients not likely to require admission.
  • Care of patients in the Clinical Decision Unit, incorporating Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
  • Contribute to a stimulating and rewarding range of clinical interfaces with opportunities for training.

  • Central Middlesex Hospital: planned care site with surgical and outpatient services, co-located with an urgent care centre.
