Applications are invited for the Consultant in Medical Microbiology to work in our Trust. London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest integrated care Trusts in the country, bringing together hospital and community services across the boroughs of Brent, Harrow and Ealing. Our 9,000 staff, including 1,300 doctors and 4,000 nurses, serve a diverse population of approximately 850,000.

The Microbiology department has a close working relationship with infectious diseases departments at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospital sites. We are looking for an enthusiastic and clinically focused Consultant with experience in clinical microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship in the UK. The successful candidate will join the Microbiology team of 3.9 Consultants and 2.0 wte Specialty Doctors to provide clinical microbiology service across the Trust's hospital sites (Northwick Park, St Marks, Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospitals) and the local communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Out of hours Oncall rota (1:4). Applicants must be on the GMC Register at the time of interview. Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To work closely with colleagues and the Infection Control Team in the management of patients.
  • To carry out duties assigned by senior colleagues.
  • To ensure that the process of producing the information contained in a Pathology report is carried out to the required professional standard.
  • To provide clinical advice to clinicians.
  • To enable and participate in clinical audit.
  • To participate in and contribute towards infection control matters including the Infection Control Committee meetings and Antibiotic Committee meetings and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • To participate in appropriate teaching, training, and research and development stewardship.
  • To establish and maintain close liaison with all clinical departments within the hospital and to participate in meetings, ward rounds, audit etc as necessary to provide a high quality and effective clinical microbiology service.
