An exciting opportunity to lead clinical care within the new Haemoglobinopathy Ambulatory Hub at Central Middlesex Hospital, serving adults across North West London. The role is funded by NHS England MedTech funding and focuses on enhancing Red Cell Exchange service and Day Pain Management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide autonomous advanced practitioner clinical care for adults with haemoglobinopathies, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and patient education.
  • Lead and develop the Nurse‑Led Apheresis service, overseeing clinical practice, policies and standards of care.
  • Deliver Red Cell Exchange both manual and automated, and manage day‑to‑day apheresis procedures.
  • Act as a multidisciplinary team lead, working across sites, supporting junior doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in clinical governance, departmental strategic agenda, and overall nursing staff management.
  • Support continuous professional development for self and colleagues, and model best practice.

Qualifications – Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • Masters‑level education.
  • Post‑registration Haemoglobinopathy Module or equivalent experience.
  • Independent Non‑Medical Prescriber qualification.
  • Physical Assessment qualification.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent.

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Non‑Medical Blood authorisation/prescribing qualification.
  • IRMER qualification.

Experience and Knowledge – Essential

  • In‑depth knowledge of current clinical developments within haemoglobinopathies.
  • Experience in delivering Red Cell Exchange both manual and automated.
  • Experience managing complex chronic conditions and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of governance, complaints processes, budgeting and financial management.
  • Knowledge and experience in pain management and adult safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Experience implementing and evaluating change, and as a line manager.

Experience and Knowledge – Desirable

  • Research experience.

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

  • Advanced clinical skills, including apheresis and transfusion management.
  • Ultrasound‑guided line insertion – deep vein cannulation, midlines, femoral line.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Innovative and adaptable to changes in practice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work under pressure and commit to personal and staff development.
  • Role model and skilled practitioner.

Compensation & Details

  • Band 8a – Salary £61,631 to £68,623 per annum inclusive of HCAS pro‑rata.
  • Permanent, full‑time contract at Central Middlesex Hospital, Acton Lane, London NW10 7NS.
