We are seeking a motivated Junior Data Engineer to support the design, development and maintenance of scalable data solutions on our Databricks platform. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced data engineers to develop ETL/ELT processes, assist in building data pipelines using PySpark, and support the integration of data from a variety of source systems into our Lakehouse environment. This role will provide an excellent opportunity to develop data engineering expertise while contributing to data-driven decision making through the delivery of reliable, high-quality and governed data assets. The ideal candidate will have foundational experience with Databricks, cloud-based data platforms, Data Lakehouse concepts and modern data engineering practices.
Key Accountabilities- Support the development and maintenance of scalable data pipelines within the Databricks platform.
- Assist in building and maintaining ETL/ELT processes using PySpark and Spark SQL.
- Contribute to the implementation of Data Lakehouse and Medallion Architecture frameworks.
- Support the ingestion, transformation and integration of data from multiple source systems.
- Help maintain data quality, accuracy, consistency and governance standards.
- Monitor data processing workloads and escalate issues where required.
- Support the delivery of analytical, reporting and operational data solutions.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements.
- Follow established data engineering standards, best practices and development frameworks.
- Support deployment and release activities for data solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science or a related discipline.
- Azure Fundamentals or Azure Data Fundamentals certification (desirable).
- Databricks Fundamentals or Associate certification (desirable).
- Relevant cloud, data engineering or analytics certifications are advantageous.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering or related technical roles.
- Exposure to Databricks, PySpark, SQL or cloud-based data platforms through commercial experience, internships or academic projects.
- Basic understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data warehousing principles.
