In this role, you will:
- Lead and support HTA submissions to NICE, SMC, AWMSG, JCVI and NCPE
- Develop market access tools and resources for national, regional and local use
- Contribute to evidence generation with health economists, Evidence-Based Medicine managers and RWE experts
You will work in a focused sub‑team within a global organisation, collaborating with UK cross‑functional colleagues and external stakeholders, all with a clear goal of improving patients’ lives. Our hybrid working model supports both effective teamwork and your ongoing development.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Health Economics Manager, you will:
- Lead the HTA process for a single technology or indication for both the health economic and clinical components, with particular focus on the suitability of the economic argument to support the HTA strategy
- Develop and adapt materials and evidence generation activities to demonstrate the value of company assets under the JCVI’s remit (vaccines and other). They may also be required to respond to tenders issued by the DHSC
- With support from a Team Lead, you will be responsible for optimising the submission strategy, ensuring the economic arguments are appropriate, robust and consistent with the clinical data. The dossier must be of high quality and delivered on time. You will also lead post submission activities
- National value assessment for medicines and vaccines
- Devise and lead UK & Ireland value assessment strategies, ensuring economic models and arguments support HTA objectives
- Lead high‑quality HTA dossier development and the full assessment process (e.g. clarification questions, ACD responses), across both clinical and economic components
- Guide UK cost‑effectiveness and budget impact models and input into evidence synthesis (e.g. SLRs, NMAs), including use of real‑world data to address evidence gaps
- Manage external vendors (e.g. model adaptations, SLR/NMA work), ensuring strategic, technical and timeline standards are met
- Shape global early models and clinical trial design to reflect UK & Ireland requirements and product value propositions
- Represent the company at NICE and other HTA/JCVI meetings and advisory boards; engage with clinicians, payers, patient groups and other stakeholders to inform strategy
- Work closely with cross‑functional and pricing colleagues to anticipate appraisal risks and opportunities and ensure alignment across internal and external stakeholders
Evidence generation
- Lead evidence generation activities that address gaps particularly of relevance to HTA/JCVI dossiers
- Support generation of economic evidence to support lifecycle management, uptake and implementation of novel treatments
- Contribute to and/or lead health economic methodological research initiatives (e.g. NICE Methods, key issues in oncology modelling)
Lifecycle management
- Conduct landscape assessments for products in the pipeline, focusing on HTA and health economic risks and mitigations
- Support New Product Planning colleagues to ensure that HTA requirements are anticipated in the development of UK launch plans
- As required, ensure all necessary horizon scanning is up to date
- Contribute to cross-functional strategy sessions with medical, marketing, market access, and external affairs colleagues
Development, building capability, compliance, routine business activities
- Contributing to the development of technical expertise both within the HTA & OR team and the broader company
- Keep up to date on best practice statistical and health economic methods, clinical trial design and reporting
- Coach and mentor health economics managers in the team on technical methods
- There may be opportunities to manage summer and annual interns
Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required
- Master's degree in Health Economics or related discipline
- Experience of multiple HTA submissions (should include NICE), including all process milestones
- Deep knowledge of NICE methods and processes, strong economic modelling knowledge and experience, knowledge of evidence synthesis and outcomes research methods
- A deep understanding of the NHS and payer systems in the UK
Competencies/Skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written as well as presentation skills)
- Quantitative and statistical literacy; comfortable working with complex datasets and assumptions; excellent analytical skills
- Working collaboratively in a matrix organization
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills across multiple concurrent projects
- Proven ability to lead end‑to‑end HTA projects to tight timelines and high quality
