We have an exciting opportunity for a People Partner to join our HR team. Our People Partners are responsible for providing a world-class generalist HR service to our business, ensuring that our people strategy is delivered in a pragmatic and agile way. The People Partner is the main point of contact for their assigned business units, providing support, guidance and HR advice to drive business growth promoting the people agenda.

In collaboration with the HR centres of expertise and supported by a dedicated People Advisor, our People Partners will ensure that our people activities are pragmatic, robust, relevant and aligned to not only business goals but also our values, culture and heritage. We are looking for real-world solutions to real-world problems.

The People Partner will be a trusted member of the management team in both the HR team and within their relevant business units, with accountability for ensuring each unit has the right people doing the right things at the right time. Additionally, our People Partners will work on assigned people projects which have cross-business impact.

Skills and experience you’ll bring to us:

  • Experience in a senior generalist HR function, or as a highly-skilled specialist in people relations or organisational change.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law, change management and HR best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage change in an agile and engaging way.
  • Strong influencing, communication and change management abilities.
  • Ability to think on their feet, work in an agile way balancing multiple priorities.

Desirable skills:

  • Degree in HR or Business Management, or similar relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of MSC’s values, culture and heritage.
  • Qualified CIPD, with Chartered MCIPD or FCIPD (or a desire to work towards) preferred.

How you will help us and what you can expect:

People-Centred Approach: Build and maintain highly-effective and respected relationships with key stakeholders in order to provide the best service possible to managers and our people. Understand their business units, both where they are and where they want to be and support the design and implementation of pragmatic plans to achieve this, in line with MSC’s culture and values.

Working as a partner to managers and colleagues, to help shape the right solutions which support business growth whilst protecting both MSC’s wider people-strategy and heritage. Ensuring that there are clear points of contact between the business and the wider People & Culture team, ensuring appropriate collaboration and signposting is in place so we have the right people working on the right things at the right time. This is done through an 'account management’ approach.

Supporting Business Growth: Provide an authentic and responsive People Partnering service, including people relations supporting conflict resolution, employee engagement, compliance with employment laws and company policies, organisational change, recruitment and talent acquisition, which are all integral to the success of business growth. Act both proactively and reactively in the people sphere as required in order to promote organisational agility.

Active participant in relevant management meetings ensuring that current priorities and activities are focussed on what is important to them and the wider business. Provide an authentic and responsive People Partnering service, including people relations, organisational change and talent acquisition, which are integral to the success of business growth. Shared accountability on the absence management of colleagues in scope, ensuring robust policies and procedures are followed in line with MSC’s wellbeing approach.

Building a Highly Skilled Workforce: Lead on the talent acquisition selection process for their business units, with shared accountability with the business for the quality and timelines of quality selections. In partnership with the OD team’s processes and expertise, promote and support the embedding and effective use of both established and evolving performance and talent management practices.

Know the key talents and succession plans across the business, and work with the OD team to ensure IDPs are delivered and updated. Ensure that expertise within the People & Culture team is capitalised upon by involving it early and often in all relevant activities and projects.

Modern Data-Driven People Practices & Continuous Evolution: Using established and new sources of objective data, provide meaningful and useful insights to help drive the people agenda. Data should always be accompanied with valuable analysis which leaders can use. Working in collaboration with the People Services, Experience and OD teams to ensure all data is understood consistently and its use is aligned across the business.

Ensuring all data and trends are viewed through the lens of MSC’s proud heritage, values and culture to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.

Collaborative High Performance: Acting as ambassador for, and instilling a culture of, one-team working - both within the People & Culture team and the wider business. Delivering against established KPIs and SLAs. Encouraging curiosity and confidence to challenge; always asking 'how can we make this better?’ Instilling a habit of understanding the 'why’ and 'why now’ are known at all times, so that we ensure full alignment.
