Job Description

Customs & Port Operations Co-ordinator

Full time, permanent

We have an exciting opportunity for a Customs & Port Operations Co-ordinator to join our Port Operations team.The successful applicant will ensure all UK export bookings are customs clear to connect with planned vessels in compliance with HMRC requirements and deadlines, completing the clearances with and for the customers as required, to ensure no short shipments.

Also, you will be responsible for completing all import and transhipment manifesting for the trades designated to meet the deadlines set out by MSC, the Port of call, and in compliance with all local Govt authorities such as Port Health, Border Force and HMRC to prevent delayed onward movement or additional costs. Identifying and resolving issues that may prevent this connection within those deadlines, using a range of internal and external systems to check and resolve, whilst also liaising with internal and external contacts as required.

How you will help us and what you can expect

  • Completion of export customs entries as required using both internal and external HMRC systems
  • Working with customers to resolve issues on the clearance to ensure full compliance of HMRC requirements whilst allowing cargo to connect to planned vessel/service.
  • Developing client retention through excellent customer service, assisting them with enquiries regarding customs procedures and requirements, of particular importance since Brexit
  • Monitoring vessel arrivals to prioritise workload, liaising with customers on arrival deadlines to ensure clearances are completed within cut offs.
  • Contribute towards the ongoing Company vision to increase the client base, revenue and profitability of the Customs product
  • Working within HMRC regulations to ensure MSC are compliant with all current requirements, undertaking training as required to increase knowledge, experience and awareness of latest updates to customs requirements
  • Ensuring all change of destination requests are completed and liaising with MSC Planners to prevent errors and costs to the business or customers
  • Manifesting, routing and monitoring of transhipment cargo transiting the UK, to ensure efficient movement; dealing with Geneva planners, Trade managers, Global MSC Agencies, Network department, Port Captains and terminals to ensure minimal dwell and cost impact on MSC.
  • Ensuring all documentation is provided in line with Government agencies requirements and deadlines at UK terminals, including Port Health, Border Force and HMRC inspections, to prevent short shipment, significant additional costs to MSC and delay of customers cargo
  • Working with customers regarding any delays & potential cost implications
  • Ensuring all manifests are uploaded into MSC systems within target deadlines
  • Providing HM Customs with all relevant information for imports and transhipments prior to ships arrival
  • Extensive use of Port community systems such as Destin8 and CNS
  • Communicate completion of vessels to import documentation department
  • Completion of vessel out turns in line with deadlines and advise all parties involved of any amendments
  • Ensure all empty units are turned to stock to prevent significant costs to the agency
  • Assisting other Port Operations teams where necessary and able.
