Your Purpose

To oversee, evaluate, and continuously improve the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program across the fleet, ensuring it complies with MSC and Explora Journeys standards, maritime public health requirements, and industry best practices. The Traveler contract is a Seafarer contract, and the work must be performed whilst on board our vessels and not exceed 300 days per year (including travel days and approved work from home days).

Your Impact

  • Follow SOP 17.01.03.00 - Travelling PHFS Fleet Supervisor Professional Conduct & Operational Standards and Travelling Fleet Supervisors Personnel Policy.
  • Participate in all PH & FS trainings, seminars, calls, meetings and management review as required.
  • Coordinate the ship visit plan and schedule for internal audits with the Director of Public Health & Food Safety considering the fleet’s audit calendar and other activities.
  • Ensure the vessels are given sufficient notice of any shipboard support visits and inspections and information on the requirements.
  • Ensure a ship visit agenda is prepared, shared and agreed with the vessels and office.
  • Ensure appropriate travel documentation and arrangements are made in line with MSC Travel Policy, ensuring visas and passports are current and valid for all countries where the vessels sail.
  • Submit monthly travel expenses report and work from home timesheets.

Operational Compliance & Ship Support

  • During ship visits, evaluate the integrated pest management knowledge and skills of onboard Public Health Officers / Pest Control Technicians and give feedback to the shoreside Public Health & Food Safety Department if requested.
  • Verify full compliance with the MSC IPM Policy, operational directives, and international public health expectations (including CDC VSP, SHIPSAN, ANVISA, and other port‑specific or applicable maritime health requirements).
  • Be able to communicate any concerns to the onboard leadership in a clear, professional and comprehensive manner.
  • Participate in crisis management in the event of major incidents of Public Health & Food Safety concern.
  • Support Corporate oversight for special Public Health initiatives and implementation of SOP’s.
  • Analyse root causes of non-conformities and recommend corrective actions during onboard inspections.
  • Deliver integrated pest management training to leadership and middle-management teams, strengthening public health operations and supervision in each department.

Integrated Pest Management

  • Conduct comprehensive internal IPM inspections on board each assigned vessel, covering all accommodation, hotel, galley, storage, provision, technical and environmental areas.
  • Ensure correct implementation of pest‑prevention measures, sanitation standards, monitoring procedures, and documentation systems.
  • Review and validate all pest activity logs, trend analyses, device placement maps, and corrective action records.
  • Observe and verify safe, compliant, and effective mixing, handling, and application of pesticides by onboard pest control technicians as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ensure only approved chemicals, concentrations, and methods are used, in line with MSC policies and as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct practical competency checks and provide direct training to onboard technicians to ensure correct techniques, PPE usage, dilution accuracy, and equipment maintenance.
  • Produce clear, professional reports with corrective action requirements and share them with shipboard leadership and relevant shoreside departments.
  • Conduct risk analyses to identify potential infestation sources or vulnerabilities across departments.
  • Recommend enhancements to structural, operational, and sanitation practices to strengthen the overall pest‑prevention strategy.
  • Assist with development and implementation of IPM policies and procedures.
  • Provide shipboard teams and pest control technicians with targeted IPM training.
  • Support onboard management in fostering a strong IPM culture, ensuring ownership and accountability within each department.
  • Provide immediate IPM guidance during complex infestations.

Your Journey so far

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Public Health or Environmental Health in the Maritime or Hospital Industry.
  • Experience supervising pest control operations or conducting compliance audits preferred.
  • Strong understanding of integrated pest management principles, chemical safety, pesticide handling, and application techniques.
  • Bachelor's/ Master’s Degree in Public Health, Environmental health or Food Science (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in integrated pest management, public health or environmental health in the maritime or hospitality industry.
  • Excellent communication, training, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to operational needs.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work aboard cruise ships for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); additional languages are an asset.
