Your Purpose

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior Public Health Professional to join our head office in West London as our Head of Public Health. This role will support the Director of Public Health and Food Safety in the delivery of the Company's public health programme across the MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys fleets. The role provides leadership and technical oversight of fleet-wide public health programmes, ensuring regulatory compliance, effective risk management and continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with shipboard and shoreside stakeholders, the postholder supports the achievement of the Company's public health objectives across all regions and brands and may act as the Director's delegate when required.

Your Impact

  • Provide leadership, guidance and technical support to shipboard and shoreside public health personnel, including workforce planning, scheduling, deployment and technical recruitment activities.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of public health policies, standards, procedures, guidance and training programmes in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Maintain oversight of fleet-wide public health programmes, including environmental hygiene, water safety, recreational water facilities, air quality, communicable disease prevention, and associated monitoring and compliance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable public health regulations and standards, including those issued by VSP, SHIPSAN, ANVISA, Health Canada and other relevant authorities.
  • Support public health inspections, audits, corrective action programmes and onboard visits as required, providing technical expertise to promote compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide expert advice and leadership as required during public health incidents, disease outbreaks, emergencies and significant shipboard events of public health concern, including participation in out-of-hours response activities.
  • Support newbuild, refurbishment and drydock projects through the provision of specialist public health input and risk assessment.
  • Analyse public health performance data and operational trends to identify risks, measure performance and drive continual improvement.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, regulatory authorities, industry organisations and external partners.
  • Support business planning, procurement and supplier management activities by providing technical expertise, operational requirements and cost information as required.
  • Represent the Public Health and Food Safety function in governance forums, industry engagements, regulatory interactions and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Public Health and Food Safety or Vice President, Chief Medical Officer.

Your Journey so far

  • Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Food Science or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in public health, environmental health, maritime sanitation or another regulated operational environment.
  • Knowledge of public health programmes, regulations and standards, including water safety, sanitation, communicable disease prevention, VSP, SHIPSAN and HACCP.
  • Experience supporting inspections, audits, outbreak investigations and corrective action programmes.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, fluent in English and willing to undertake international travel, including shipboard assignments.
