Job Overview:

  • We are looking for a Head of People to provide high quality HR leadership to support business wide decision making and oversight on the development and delivery of MSB’s people strategy.
  • The role will also include supporting our people, recruitment, and development strategy, by recruiting, retaining and promoting highly skilled and motivated people in every area of our work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing day to day and strategic guidance on people-related matters, engaging as a trusted mentor to the Partners/Heads of Departments, and supporting all levels within the organisation.
  • Giving best-practice HR advice, whilst maintaining a balance to the business and employee viewpoint.
  • Ensuring HR policies and procedures are kept up to date and comply with current employment law.
  • Supporting people managers to achieve plans, objectives and targets and develop the capabilities of their teams.
  • Supporting the management of recruitment, career development and succession planning to ensure fairness and equal opportunities.
  • Working closely with and supporting our HR Executive, to give guidance where necessary on day-to-day people matters.
  • Ensuring our people have, maintain, and develop the necessary competencies to be able to fulfil their job requirements and future career goals at MSB.
  • Working collaboratively with the Managing Partner on the annual promotion and Training Contract application processes.
  • Practical knowledge of our Recruitment and HR system, CIPHR, to manage people records, and analysis of key people metrics to identify and report themes and solutions to Partners and Heads of Departments.
  • Ensuring a collaborative approach across all HR projects which guarantees and promotes seamless service delivery.
  • Maintaining and managing the performance review system to help people managers improve team performance and engagement.
  • Maintaining the health and safety portal and working with Practice Partner and HS provider.
  • Championing the MSB Wellbeing Strategy which ensures our Partners, Head of Departments, people managers and employees are well supported and have access to the right resources which they may need.
  • Promoting a culture of support, recognition and care between individuals and teams, respecting and embracing the diversity of our people and clients.
  • Continuously supporting the development of our people by creating/managing current internal training programmes and Away Days.
  • Supporting and day to day management of our L&D Team.
  • Working in partnership with our external training providers.
  • Supporting the Managing Partner, Head of Compliance and our Finance and Practice Partner with all current and future accreditations linked to our people.
  • Supporting and promoting our equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging priorities throughout the business.

Qualifications Skills and Experience:

  • CIPD Level 7 or equivalent qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best-practice.
  • Management and technical use of HR information software systems, ideally CIPHR.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in HR leadership within a professional services environment, preferably within the legal sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with integrity and professionalism.
  • Expertise in designing and executing learning and development programmes.
