The Senior Underwriter - Professional Indemnity is responsible for underwriting and developing a portfolio of international professional indemnity business, taking the lead on specific client portfolios in accordance with the Casualty business plan.

Our underwriters are at the heart of everything we do, and this is a key role within a small, dynamic team.

MS Amlin has been a long term participant in the Lloyd's casualty market and has offered professional indemnity solutions for over 30 years.

The book is a diverse portfolio of international (non US) professional liability business, covering a variety of professions across a number of industry sectors.

The business we write is deliberately non commoditised, allowing us to differentiate through product, underwriting approach and claims proposition.

The loss profile is typically low frequency but potentially high severity, with limited systemic exposure and limited correlation with economic and property market cycles.

We prefer a primary or lead position, where we can get closer to the client and drive the client experience from product design through to claims management.

About The Job

  • Generate and manage business on a client relationship basis within agreed portfolios and markets.
  • Develop and maintain effective broker relationships, managing both new and existing broker and client relationships.
  • Ensure risks are written within agreed parameters, making sound long term decisions with a focus on smart, rational underwriting.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of client portfolio strategies and the business plan, aligned to profitable growth.
  • Lead the strategic direction of the portfolio and the delivery of designated elements of the strategy and business plan.
  • Undertake analysis to identify new business opportunities, products and clients, building a robust business case for each.
  • Provide effective oversight of and input into underwriting performance, operating within agreed authorities and ensuring underwriting controls are properly managed.
  • Participate in product forum and client segmentation activity, challenging and responding to challenge on product performance.
  • Drive the client experience through the efficient oversight of issues raised, including liaison to bring complaints and claims to an effective conclusion.
  • Work in partnership with the other teams within the Casualty department and the broader business to leverage relationships and opportunities.
  • Engage with central functions such as Claims so that services and resources are available to deliver plans and strategies.

In addition to your key responsibilities, you will be expected to

  • Conduct your role in accordance with the company's Business Ethics policy, and manage the business you write so it complies with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements and with Group policies.
  • Effectively represent yourself and the business in external activities, groups and committees.
  • Set the standard on client intimacy behaviours across the market, working in partnership across the region and with other entities to leverage relationships and opportunities.
  • Act as an ambassador of our company, raising our profile in the market and proactively strengthening our reputation.
  • Abide by MS Amlin's Conduct Rules and Values.
  • What You'll Need
  • In depth knowledge, expertise and strong experience of the professional indemnity market.
  • Experience, currently or previously, in the UK or international markets, with a good working knowledge of the London Market and broker channels. This is essential for the role.
  • A good understanding of relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements.
  • A strong understanding of client intimacy and how it shapes portfolio strategy.
  • Sound business acumen, with robust analytical skills and numerical aptitude.
  • Strong networking, influencing and negotiating skills, and excellent communication.
  • An appetite for building a differentiated professional indemnity proposition.
