Track Mechanic- Job Description

M2 Bradley Hull and Automotive Systems

Roles and Responsibilities

The M2 Bradley Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, services, repairs, replaces, and adjusts the hull, automotive, and associated hull support systems of the M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The mechanic must be capable of working across all hull, automotive, and associated support systems installed on the assigned Bradley variant, using applicable technical manuals, approved maintenance procedures, and authorized tools and equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS), scheduled inspections, fault diagnosis, corrective maintenance, and post-repair checks on M2 Bradley hull and automotive systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, remove, replace, and service diesel engines and powerpack assemblies, including fuel delivery, air induction, lubrication, cooling, and exhaust systems.
  • Maintain transmissions, final drives, driveline components, steering, and braking systems; diagnose leaks, abnormal operation, and component wear.
  • Inspect, repair, replace, and adjust tracks, track shoes and pads, track tensioning components, sprockets, road wheels, idlers, hubs, bearings, and suspension components.
  • Diagnose and repair hull electrical systems, including batteries, starting and charging systems, wiring harnesses, connectors, circuit protection, lighting, driver controls, instruments, and hull power distribution.
  • Maintain hull hydraulic systems, pumps, lines, hoses, fittings, actuators, and rear ramp mechanisms; identify and correct leaks and operating faults.
  • Inspect and maintain hull access doors, hatches, seals, latches, seating, and associated hardware. Identify hull and armor damage and complete authorized repairs or refer specialist work.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain installed hull support systems, including fire detection and suppression, ventilation, heating or cooling, chemical protection and filtration, bilge equipment, and auxiliary power equipment, as applicable to the assigned variant.
  • Use technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, diagnostic equipment, measuring instruments, and special tools to isolate faults and verify repair quality.
  • Remove and install authorized hull and automotive assemblies using approved lifting and handling equipment. Support vehicle disassembly, refurbishment, and reassembly within the hull and automotive scope.
  • Conduct authorized functional checks and vehicle driving tests when trained and licensed; verify repair completion and report remaining deficiencies.
  • Record inspections, faults, repairs, labor, and parts usage in the designated maintenance system. Identify replacement parts and coordinate with supply and quality personnel.
  • Follow safety, hazardous-material handling, environmental, and equipment-isolation procedures. Maintain accountability for tools and a clean work area.

Minimum Requirements

  • MOS 91M or legacy Bradley maintenance MOS 63T/63M training, or equivalent military or civilian training and experience. Applicants with MOS 91H or other tracked-vehicle backgrounds must demonstrate hands-on M2 Bradley hull and automotive competence.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on tracked-vehicle maintenance experience, including demonstrated experience maintaining M2 Bradley hull and automotive systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and perform authorized maintenance across engine and powerpack, transmission, final drive, steering, braking, track, suspension, hull electrical, hull hydraulic, and vehicle support systems.
  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, illustrated parts listings, electrical diagrams, and hydraulic schematics for the assigned M2 Bradley variant.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, diagnostic and electrical test equipment, torque tools, measuring instruments, and approved lifting equipment.
  • Ability to work independently within assigned maintenance authority, recognize tasks requiring specialist support, and communicate faults and repair status clearly.
  • Ability to complete maintenance records accurately and use the customer-designated maintenance management system.
  • Ability to meet customer and site access requirements, pass required background checks, and complete customer-required medical screening.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position, with reasonable accommodation where applicable, including climbing onto and into tracked vehicles, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to handle loads of up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds intermittently, using lifting assistance and mechanical handling equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in workshop and field environments involving dust, noise, oils and fuels, and high or low temperatures while wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work the assigned contract schedule, including shifts, overtime, or surge support as required and permitted by applicable law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Bradley powerpack replacement, major automotive assembly replacement, and hull refurbishment or rebuild programs.
