Our Underwriters are at the heart of everything we do, and without them, our business wouldn’t function.
This Underwriter is a key member of the underwriting team. The individual will have the authority to make sound underwriting decisions and contribute to the delivery of the strategy. They will be responsible for maintaining and building new business to profitably grow MS Amlin and minimize loss exposure.
About The Job
What you’ll spend your time doing:
- Be part of a recognised market-leading Political Violence team with a geographically diverse portfolio and broad appetite.
- Ensure risks are analysed and written in accordance with the agreed parameters, making sound, profitable long-term decisions with a focus on smart rationale underwriting.
- Understand and negotiate insurance in line with corporate standards.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing and new clients/brokers through regular contact, demonstrating a clear understanding of their business and how we add value.
- Manage the business written across the department to ensure compliance with relevant risk, regulatory, and legal requirements.
- Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products, and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
- Liaise and ensure regional compliance with underwriting management, taking corrective action as necessary and operating within agreed authorities to ensure proper underwriting controls.
- Represent yourself and your class effectively in external activities, groups, and committees.
- Review underwriting figures regularly to identify unusual trends or adverse movements and take appropriate action.
- Work in partnership with other teams across the Insurance division, act as a peer reviewer, and leverage relationships and opportunities aligned with the wider Political Violence strategy.
