The role involves joining a specialist Pricing team providing analytical and technical pricing support across our Marine portfolio. You will work closely with other Pricing Actuarial Analysts, Pricing Actuaries, underwriters, Underwriting Management and wider business teams to help develop, validate and deploy pricing models. You will also support the business with case pricing, renewal monitoring, portfolio reviews, pricing insights and other actuarial-related matters.

This role would suit someone with commercial pricing experience, ideally gained within the London Market or a specialty/commercial insurance environment, who is ready to continue building their actuarial and pricing expertise.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing a strong working relationship with other Pricing Actuarial Analysts, Pricing Actuaries, underwriters and Underwriting Management within the Insurance Division.
  • Assisting in the development and deployment of pricing models into pricing platforms, ensuring models comply with the Technical Pricing Framework and Pricing Policy.
  • Preparing and analysing external and internal data to build, test and validate technical pricing models.
  • Supporting underwriters with actuarial and technical matters, including case pricing, renewal monitoring, expected loss cost calculations and appropriate challenge where required.
  • Supporting the business and underwriters on other actuarial-related matters.
  • Working with management to monitor and improve business performance, including through Pricing Portfolio Reviews, and providing an independent opinion on the quality of risks written.
  • Maintaining and developing management information available for analysis and reporting.
  • Liaising with other functions within the company, including Catastrophe Modelling and Underwriting Modelling Development, where required.
  • Continuing to work towards full actuarial or a similar qualification.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in pricing, ideally within commercial insurance, specialty lines or the London Market.
  • A background as a Pricing Analyst, Actuarial Pricing Analyst or similar.
  • A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • Progress towards actuarial qualification, or equivalent actuarial/pricing experience.
  • Around three or more years’ relevant pricing experience, with the ability to contribute quickly.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience using programming languages such as SQL, VBA or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Confidence working with underwriters and business stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability and commercial judgement.

Experience that would be especially valuable:

  • Python
  • Pricing model development or model transition work
  • Emblem, R or similar actuarial/pricing software
  • London Market or specialty insurance pricing
  • Working closely with underwriters on technical pricing decisions

You’ll enjoy this role if you…

  • Enjoy applying maths, statistics and actuarial thinking to real business problems.
  • Like working closely with underwriters and commercial stakeholders.
  • Can translate complex data into clear, practical insight.
  • Enjoy building and improving pricing models.
  • Want to be part of a team where your contribution will be visible and valued.
  • Are comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities can change.

  • Flexible and hybrid working.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • An open culture where new ideas and better ways of working are encouraged.
  • A strong focus on diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities.
