The Race Systems Technician plays a crucial role in MRTC’s customer-facing operations, providing global on-site and remote technical support to motorsport and event-based customers in both individual and team environments. The role requires subject-matter expertise in a variety of communication systems, ensuring that MRTC’s wide range of equipment performs flawlessly under demanding conditions. • Manage small-to-medium-sized events, utilising time prioritisation to support multiple customers and their communications systems at event locations.
  • Build, test, and certify a wide variety of communications systems before deployment.
  • Manage and maintain race support inventories to ensure up-to-date stock levels on site.
  • Perform training for customers with regard to proper use and logical troubleshooting of systems.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in technical support in motorsport, broadcast, AV industry, or military.
  • Experience with two-way radios from global brands, such as Motorola or Kenwood.
  • Understanding of radio protocols, such as TETRA, DMR, or Nexedge.
  • Frequency management in UHF and VHF bands (simplex/duplex) for direct and trunk systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive situations.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to race events (both nationally and internationally, for approximately 100 days a year).

  • Good soldering and electronic repair skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient use of diagnostic equipment and basic communications test equipment.
  • Experience with managed network switches/routing, VPN, and other remote technologies.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Technical certification in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Understanding of radio frequency and spectrum management.
  • Experience with AOIP technologies, such as AES67 and/or Dante.
  • Knowledge of race operations and procedures.
