A global electronics and embedded computing powerhouse, delivering highly engineered, mission-critical solutions across defence, industrial, transportation, and secure computing markets. Operating at the intersection of hardware, software, and systems engineering, the business is scaling rapidly and investing heavily in technical leadership, innovation, and operational excellence.

This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for the Technical Services / Engineering function, spanning electronic, electrical, mechanical, and software engineering. You will operate as the architectural authority, technical escalation point, and cultural leader for engineering, balancing innovation, NPI delivery, compliance, and scalability in a complex electronics environment. This role suits a hands-on engineering leader who can think commercially, lead multi-disciplinary teams, and partner closely with Sales, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own architecture, design authority, and technical sign-off from concept through end-of-life
  • Ensure designs are optimised for manufacturability, reliability, and compliance
  • Lead design reviews, specifications, and technical documentation governance
  • Oversee NPI handover to production, including build instructions and training
  • Manage obsolescence, alternative materials, and component strategy in collaboration with Purchasing
  • Build, structure, and scale a high-performing multi-disciplinary engineering function
  • Define, track, and report OKRs across teams and individuals
  • Own skills matrices, succession planning, recruitment, and capability development
  • Foster a culture of accountability, pace, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Manage departmental budgets and resource utilisation
  • Lead multiple concurrent engineering projects with on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Own feasibility studies, project scoping, cost estimation, and risk management
  • Control technical and contractual change management
  • Drive lessons-learned reviews and process improvement initiatives
  • Act as a senior technical interface for customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
  • Support bids, OSRs, and NRE estimations with strong commercial awareness
  • Contribute to product strategy, lifecycle management, and value proposition development
  • Champion standardisation of components, materials, and platforms where appropriate

Process, Quality & Compliance

  • Own engineering processes aligned to ISO 9001 BMS
  • Ensure design for manufacture and test is embedded into all outputs
  • Maintain governance across IPR, documentation, risk, and quality frameworks

Requirements

  • Core Engineering Background
  • Senior engineering leadership experience within electronics, embedded systems, or complex hardware environments
  • Proven delivery across electronic, electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines
  • Strong NPI experience in regulated or quality-critical industries
  • Component & Technical Literacy
  • Deep understanding of electronic component selection, lifecycle, and obsolescence
  • Experience working closely with the supply chain on alternative sourcing and material strategy
  • Comfortable operating across BOMs, specifications, and compliance requirements
  • Leadership & Commercial Acumen
  • Experience leading teams through growth, change, and scale
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with commercial outcomes
  • Confident stakeholder management at the executive and customer level
