This well-established engineering and manufacturing business designs and manufactures bespoke electronic enclosures and complete electronic systems for customers across a wide range of industries.

As the company continues to invest in its commercial growth, they’re looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to identify new opportunities, re-engage existing accounts and help drive the next stage of the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys consultative selling, working closely with engineering teams and delivering tailored solutions that genuinely solve customer challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business opportunities across bespoke electronic enclosures and complete electronic systems.
  • Re-engage dormant customer accounts and convert them into active, long-term relationships.
  • Build, manage and maintain a healthy sales pipeline to achieve revenue targets.
  • Identify, qualify and develop new customer opportunities.
  • Meet with customers to understand their technical and commercial requirements.
  • Prepare tailored proposals and quotations in collaboration with internal engineering teams.
  • Deliver a consultative, solution-led sales approach throughout the entire sales process.
  • Build strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure customer requirements can be delivered successfully.
  • Coordinate manufacturing capability, lead times and commercial proposals.
  • Liaise with internal departments to provide a seamless customer experience from enquiry through to delivery.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, sales activity and customer information.
  • Produce regular sales forecasts, pipeline updates and management reports.
  • Support customer communication and order progression throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in external business development or technical sales within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of generating new business and developing long-term customer relationships.
  • Strong consultative selling and solution-led sales skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience using CRM systems, managing sales pipelines and producing forecasts.
  • Commercially aware with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience selling custom-engineered products, manufacturing services or technical solutions is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of electronic enclosures, electronic systems, electromechanical products or related technologies would be beneficial.
  • An existing network of OEMs, manufacturers or engineering contacts is desirable.
  • Good technical understanding of engineered products and manufacturing processes.
  • Self-motivated, target-driven and able to work independently.
  • Customer-focused with a proactive and consultative approach.
  • Strong commercial judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident building relationships with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with colleagues across engineering, production and customer support.
