We are an award-winning web development and marketing agency looking for a Web Developer to join our team full-time. You’ll work closely with our designers and developers to build and maintain modern WordPress sites using the Gutenberg block editor. The role involves translating design files into clean, responsive front-end builds, extending WordPress with custom post types and theme logic, and ensuring a high level of consistency and performance across projects.
Responsibilities for the Web Developer:
- Build and update responsive Gutenberg pages from Adobe or Figma designs
- Work within established design systems, templates, and block libraries
- Create and maintain custom post types, templates, and basic plugin functionality
- Extend and refine existing WordPress themes using core PHP
- Write and compile styles using SASS, ensuring clean, maintainable CSS output
- Tweak and test layouts for responsiveness and cross-browser consistency
- Optimise images, handle metadata, and ensure accessibility compliance
- Perform QA checks across multiple devices and browsers
- Manage updates in Git and follow internal workflows
Required skills for the Web Developer:
- Strong understanding of the WordPress Gutenberg editor and WordPress core concepts
- Proficient in HTML, CSS/SASS, and basic ES6 JavaScript
- Working knowledge of PHP for WordPress theme and plugin development
- Experience creating and managing custom post types and taxonomies
- Confident working from detailed design specifications in Adobe and Figma
- Able to debug layout, styling, and template issues efficiently
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) to enhance coding efficiency and problem-solving
Nice to have for the Web Developer:
- Familiarity with theme.json and modern WordPress theming
- Understanding of SEO and accessibility fundamentals
- Experience with Git branching and version control best practices
- Basic experience using NPM (Node Package Manager) and Node Version Manager (NVM) for managing build tools and dependencies
- Exposure to MySQL, including writing simple queries for data retrieval or debugging
Profile for the Web Developer:
You’re a technically capable developer who takes pride in building things properly. You understand WordPress architecture, Gutenberg’s quirks, and how to bridge design and development cleanly. You’ll collaborate closely with both design and development teams to deliver robust, responsive WordPress sites that are efficient, scalable, and visually precise.
Progression for the Web Developer:
As a developer in this role you are not just building pages. You will be part of a busy specialist team who build high performing WordPress sites all day, every day. You will work alongside senior developers, technical leads and experienced designers who are happy to pair with you, review your code and explain the “why”, not just the “what”. The aim is simple: to help you grow into a confident mid weight developer, and build your skills exponentially.
What you can expect:
- Structured progression path with clear expectations and regular reviews focused on your technical growth and portfolio.
- Mentoring from industry experts including direct access to senior WordPress and Gutenberg developers for code reviews, pair programming and architecture discussions.
- Hands on learning through real client projects, with access to courses, documentation and internal knowledge sharing sessions to support your development.
- Challenging, modern projects including production Gutenberg builds, custom themes and plugins, not just content updates, so you gain experience that genuinely furthers your career.
- Supportive, close knit team of designers, developers and marketers who collaborate closely, share solutions and help you get unstuck quickly.
The perks:
- Vitality private healthcare insurance
- Work from home up to 2 days a week
- Flexible working hours
- Cash referral programme
- Added long-term service benefits
- Conference attendance support
- A collaborative, creative and inspiring working environment
