Renowned for delivering major grid infrastructure schemes, this organisation offers expert-led solutions in project management, design, engineering, and construction delivery across multiple frameworks.
We are seeking a Design Manager to oversee and coordinate engineering design projects across the UK T&D network. Based in Glasgow, this role offers the opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary design activities from concept through to construction support. You will be instrumental in managing project teams, coordinating with internal engineering departments and global offices, and ensuring compliance with best practice and client-specific design standards.
This is a critical role within a high-performance project delivery team and will suit an experienced design or engineering professional with a background in complex utility or infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Managing design projects through the full lifecycle, from FEED to construction support
- Acting as Design Manager or Project Manager depending on project type
- Leading internal coordination and external client engagement
- Ensuring compliance with CDM, design management standards and project controls
- Supporting resourcing and team selection across multiple design disciplines
- Driving project reporting, cost, programme, quality, and SHEQ performance
- Leading design meetings, workshops and risk reviews
- Supporting proposal development and client presentations
- Promoting a culture of 'Safety by Design' and technical excellence
- Line management and mentorship of design staff, including support for training and development
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams within infrastructure or utilities
- Strong working knowledge of engineering design standards, planning and permitting
- Experience in a design leadership role on EPC or Design & Build projects
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK design compliance standards
- Project management capability with commercial awareness and stakeholder focus
- Experience with project reporting tools and execution planning
- Professional engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience
