Assistant Site Manager – Walpole 400kV Substation Location: Walpole 400kV Substation Contract: 6-month rolling contract Assignment: Full-time, site-based IR35: Outside IR35 Rate: Negotiable based on experience The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Site Manager to support the delivery of a major 400kV substation project at Walpole. The role is being delivered on behalf of a leading engineering and construction organisation specialising in complex energy infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. The business has extensive experience delivering high-voltage transmission and distribution projects and operates within a highly regulated environment where safety, quality, technical excellence and programme delivery are critical. The successful candidate will support the Site Manager with the day-to-day management of the project and will provide SR163 cover when the Site Manager is not on site. You will also supervise site activities, coordinate subcontractors and provide clear feedback to the Site Manager to ensure the works progress safely, efficiently and in accordance with the programme. The Role You will play an important role within the site management team, supporting the delivery of works while maintaining high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental performance. Responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with CDM requirements and all relevant setting-to-work procedures, supervising site personnel and subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with the agreed programme. You will produce site reports and provide timely information to the wider project team, monitor subcontractor performance and ensure agreed production levels are achieved. The role will also involve supporting the implementation of Safe Systems of Work, including the issuing of Permits to Dig where required. You will be expected to lead by example across health, safety, quality and environmental management, while promoting best practice and ensuring lessons learned and good practice are fed back into the wider business. The successful candidate will also support quality assurance activities, maintain project standards and assist with the production of as-built information. You will work closely with the Site Manager and wider project team to ensure client requirements and agreed KPIs are consistently met or exceeded. Essential Qualifications & Experience * National Grid SR163 experience and authorisation * National Grid Competent Person experience * Strong experience supervising works on 400kV or high-voltage substation projects * Experience working within a CDM-regulated construction environment * Experience supervising subcontractors and site teams * Good understanding of Safe Systems of Work and setting-to-work procedures * Relevant health and safety qualification such as SMSTS, SSSTS or IOSH * CSCS or equivalent site safety qualification * Full UK driving licence Desirable Previous experience on major National Grid transmission projects, together with experience in temporary works, Permits to Dig, quality assurance and the production of as-built information, would be advantageous. Working Pattern This is a full-time, site-based position at the Walpole 400kV Substation. The project is expected to provide a 6-month rolling contract, offering good continuity for an experienced site professional.
