An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Managing Director to lead the UK operations of a major European supplier of custom electronic components and solutions. With over 50 years of heritage, this business partners with leading-edge customers across the Transportation, Medical, Industrial, Renewable Energy, Aerospace, and Defence sectors. The company is poised for continued growth, supported by extensive engineering resources, specialist Technology Centres, and a strong acquisition strategy. Role Overview:
- As Managing Director, you will lead the UK commercial and operational strategy, driving revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion.
- You will provide inspirational leadership to Sales Management, Field Sales, Inside Sales, and technical teams, while maintaining strong operational controls over P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- You will champion a solutions-led sales approach, ensuring that customer needs are met with cutting-edge product offerings and custom design capabilities.
- You will also foster a high-performance culture, recruiting, developing, and motivating teams to exceed targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the UK business and sales strategy aligned with wider European objectives.
- Full P&L responsibility including bookings, billings, gross margin and EBIT delivery.
- Drive customer acquisition and design funnel activity through effective use of CRM systems.
- Strengthen key customer and supplier relationships to support long-term growth.
- Implement accurate forecasting structures, monthly performance reviews, and corrective actions where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with Finance, Operations, and the Board to ensure strategic and tactical alignment.
- Manage staffing, training, and development plans to build and maintain high-performing teams.
- Promote a culture of ethical behaviour, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree educated (or equivalent) within an engineering discipline with strong commercial acumen.
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary sales and operations teams within the electronics, photonics, or high-tech component solutions sectors.
- Demonstrable track record of managing P&Ls and delivering year-on-year financial improvement.
- Deep understanding of high-growth market sectors such as Transportation, Medical, Renewable Energy, or Industrial Automation.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate at all levels.
- Comfortable operating at a strategic and tactical level, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional European languages advantageous.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
