Lighting Design Engineer
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading organisation within the lighting industry, for an experienced
Lighting Design Engineer to join their team.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering creative, compliant and commercially viable lighting designs, working closely with customers, consultants, contractors and internal teams.
Key responsibilities include
- Managing multiple lighting design projects from concept to completion.
- Producing lighting layouts, calculations, specifications, luminaire schedules and technical documentation.
- Reviewing project specifications, architectural and MEP drawings and design briefs.
- Supporting specification-led projects, tenders and design development.
- Responding to customer and consultant technical queries.
- Working closely with Sales, Specification, Technical and Quotation teams.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant UK standards, including
BS, CIBSE and Part L .
- Selecting suitable luminaires, controls and emergency lighting solutions.
- Providing technically appropriate alternative products where required, considering cost, compliance and performance.
- Identifying design risks, specification gaps and cost implications.
- Supporting continuous improvement and providing guidance to junior designers where required.
About You
The successful candidate will have
2-5 years' experience in lighting design , ideally within a commercial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing projects independently and working directly with customers.
- Experience producing lighting layouts, calculations, reports and specifications.
- Proficiency in
Relux or DIALux and CAD .
- Strong knowledge of lighting principles, controls and emergency lighting.
- Good understanding of
UK lighting standards (BS, CIBSE and Part L) .
- Ability to interpret architectural, MEP and consultant drawings.
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A commercially aware, detail-oriented and proactive approach.
Desirable
LIA accreditation, Revit/BIM experience and knowledge of lighting controls.
