Based in Luton, Bedfordshire, our international travel client is exclusively working with MRK Associates in their search for an Interim Head of Procurement working on a hybrid basis 2-3 days in the office for an expected 12 month period.

This job would suit an experienced Procurement expert, ideally with an MCIPS qualification, to be responsible for running the Procurement team whilst delivering significant change and improvement across the Procurement function in line with the overall Procurement vision and strategy to support and enable growth. Key areas of development will be across systems, process improvement, team development and commercial decision-making.

A new Procurement system, Jaggaer, has been implemented recently with the aim that improved processes will allow the Procurement Team to spend more time on higher value-add activities, such as Category Management and Contract Management, which are currently at an early stage of maturity. There needs to be significant work done to optimise the usage of this system, which will be a significant part of this role.

The current Head of Procurement will also be leaving for maternity leave in 3 months’ time, so this individual will take over this role at that point as all transformation work in the meantime is to support the work this individual is already undertaking.

The successful individual will ideally be MCIPS qualified with a strong track record within improvement, change, transformation, and development type projects. You will have led teams and functions in the past (as there are 10-12 in this team) and most likely have experience within a category management led procurement function. Previous experience of working in a regulatory-based industry and working with FTS and understanding the FTS process on Public Sector procurement contracts would be extremely useful. Experience of the Jaggaer procurement system would also be a huge advantage.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transformation plan to improve the Procurement function.
  • Maintain an engaging approach from the Procurement function to the business.
  • Adhere to the Procurement policy and procedure across the business while looking to improve this alongside the commercial decision-making process.
  • Work in partnership with operational budget holders and manage Procurement and contracting activity, utilising the Procurement system.
  • Focus on understanding the shortcomings of the new Jaggaer system, driving improvements and coaching the team to optimise it.
  • Work with the business and negotiate contractual arrangements with suppliers to ensure that value for money is optimised across all categories of expenditure (Opex and Capex).
  • Develop the team to move from a generalist procurement function into a more category management led/business partnering based function.
  • With the CFO, push the embedded rule-based decision-making process into a more creative and flexible commercial setup.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced procurement leader to work on an interesting procurement transformation project in a growing, well-recognised business at a time when they can make a real difference as the function evolves.
