We're seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a pioneering tech company. This is a chance to significantly influence their core infrastructure and lead a dedicated platform sub-team. Up to £62k (DOE) | Remote-first in Manchester (with one monthly meetup).
You will be instrumental in shaping their technical landscape, focusing on infrastructure evolution, environment optimisation, and refining CI/CD processes. A key part of this role involves leading a platform sub-team, offering crucial technical guidance, and mentoring individuals.
A significant greenfield element involves rebuilding substantial parts of their infrastructure, migrating it from Bitbucket to GitHub. Our client champions a strong DevOps culture, so you will be a central figure in advocating for scalable infrastructure and robust platform engineering principles. This means close collaboration with development, QA, and SRE teams to build secure, cost-effective, and repeatable systems. You will blend deep technical work with impactful leadership, needing a solid grasp of production operations, incident response, Infrastructure as Code, and modern best practices.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead & Innovate: Guide the platform team's workstreams, delivering impactful infrastructure projects, including rebuilding existing infrastructure from Bitbucket and migrating to GitHub.
- Optimise Workflows: Standardise and manage CI/CD processes, promoting automation.
- Empower Teams: Develop self-service tooling with Dev, QA, and SRE.
- Ensure Consistency: Harmonise lower environments with production.
- Team Development: Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Knowledge Ownership: Create comprehensive documentation for platform tooling, CI/CD, and IaC.
Skills We’re Looking For:
- Cloud & Production Expertise: Extensive experience with production-grade infrastructure, particularly AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM).
- Infrastructure as Code: Deep expertise with Terraform.
- CI/CD Migration Experience: Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI), especially within migration projects (e.g., from Bitbucket to GitHub).
- Containerization: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Core Fundamentals: Solid understanding of networking, IAM, and platform security.
- Database Acumen: Experience with SQL, NoSQL, and data warehouses (MySQL, DynamoDB, Snowflake).
- Scripting Versatility: Proficient in Bash, Python, or Go.
- Mentorship: Proven experience mentoring individuals and fostering team growth.
- Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork.
