We're supporting one of the UK's most ambitious cloud and database transformation programmes and currently looking for an experienced Database Administrator / Database Engineer to play a critical role in the project. This isn't a BAU DBA contract. You'll be joining a high-profile programme responsible for migrating a substantial legacy database estate into a modern, AWS-native architecture. At the heart of the project is the migration of complex MongoDB environments into AWS DocumentDB, helping deliver a platform capable of supporting millions of customer interactions at enterprise scale. For experienced database professionals, opportunities to influence a migration of this size and complexity don't come around often.

The Challenge

You'll lead the database workstream across a major modernisation programme, owning the migration, optimisation and ongoing performance of critical NoSQL environments. Working alongside Cloud, Platform and Engineering teams, you'll help shape the future-state database architecture while ensuring a seamless transition from legacy MongoDB environments into a secure, resilient and highly scalable AWS ecosystem.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading the migration of large-scale MongoDB environments into AWS DocumentDB
  • Designing and optimising highly available, secure and resilient DocumentDB clusters
  • Identifying and resolving MongoDB to DocumentDB compatibility challenges
  • Driving database performance tuning, monitoring and optimisation activities
  • Supporting migration execution using AWS DMS and associated tooling
  • Establishing operational standards, governance and best practice across the database estate
  • Working closely with Cloud, DevOps and Engineering teams to deliver a successful transformation programme

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive experience administering AWS DocumentDB in production environments
  • 8+ years as a DBA, Database Engineer or similar database-focused role
  • Deep expertise across MongoDB and NoSQL database technologies
  • Strong AWS platform knowledge and experience operating cloud-native database services
  • Proven experience delivering complex database migration programmes
  • Strong understanding of DocumentDB architecture, limitations, compatibility considerations and operational best practices
  • Experience with AWS DMS and enterprise-scale migration tooling

Next steps: Join one of the largest database migration programmes in the UK this year! Interviews taking place ASAP. Apply now and let's chat.
