Project overview
The MRJ Contracts team are supporting a global commerce marketplace as it embarks on a significant transformation of its payments capability, moving away from its existing payments platform towards a simpler, scalable end-to-end payments solution delivered through a full-stack payments provider.
An RFP process is currently underway to identify the preferred payments partner and once selected, the new provider will need to be integrated into the wider technology and finance landscape, with customers migrated safely from the existing platform to the new solution.
Role and project overview:
We require an experienced Payments Project Manager to take ownership of this programme and lead the transition from vendor selection through integration, migration and implementation.
This is a hands-on delivery role requiring someone who has done this before, ideally having led the integration or migration of a payments platform to a major provider such as Stripe, Worldpay, Adyen or similar.
The engagement will cover:
- Support the current RFP and vendor selection process, helping assess potential full-stack payment providers from a delivery, integration and operational perspective.
- Once selected, establish the relationship and delivery model with the new payments provider, including governance, responsibilities, milestones, dependencies and implementation plans.
Payments Platform Integration
- Lead the end-to-end integration of the selected payment provider into the existing technology ecosystem.
- Coordinate internal engineering and technology teams alongside the external provider to ensure requirements, APIs, integrations, environments, testing and operational processes are aligned.
- Create and manage the delivery roadmap from initial mobilisation through build, integration, testing and production launch.
Migration to the New Platform
- Own the transition from the existing payments platform to the new solution.
- Develop and manage a structured migration and cutover plan that minimises disruption to customers and protects continuity of payment processing throughout the transition.
- Identify and manage dependencies across technology, finance, customer experience and operational teams.
Legacy Payments Platform
- Maintain oversight of the existing payments platform throughout the transition.
- Ensure the current environment remains operational and stable, effectively keeping the lights on while the new solution is implemented, while managing any necessary changes, issues or dependencies associated with the legacy platform.
- Plan for the eventual decommissioning or reduction of the legacy environment once migration is complete.
Finance & Technology Integration
- Act as the key interface between Finance and Technology throughout the programme.
- Ensure payment processing, reconciliation, reporting, settlement and wider financial requirements are understood and incorporated into the implementation.
- Translate effectively between technical, commercial and financial stakeholders to ensure decisions are made quickly and delivery remains on track.
Person Requirements:
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with strong, demonstrable payments transformation experience, someone who has been there and done it before.
A proven Project/Programme Manager, you will be expected to offer experience in:
- Previously leading a major payments implementation, integration or migration involving an established payment provider such as Stripe, Worldpay, Adyen or another enterprise payments platform.
- Coordinating internal and vendor teams and managing dependencies across complex technology landscapes.
- Legacy-to-modern transformation, including migration, coexistence, transition and eventual decommissioning.
- Dependency management, RAID management, planning, governance and senior stakeholder communication skills.
