AI Platform Engineer | Manchester City Centre (on-site) | Up to £100,000
I'm working with a leading technology business looking for an AI Platform Engineer to help build and scale the platform behind its conversational AI products and wider AI initiatives.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on taking AI solutions beyond proof of concept and making them reliable, scalable and production-ready. You'll be working across LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector search and cloud infrastructure, helping build the foundations that will support multiple AI-powered products.
The role has a strong Microsoft Azure focus, including Microsoft Foundry, and would suit someone who combines solid software or platform engineering experience with a genuine interest in building and operating AI systems in production.
What you'll be doing:
- Building and optimising production RAG pipelines, retrieval systems and LLM orchestration.
- Developing scalable, reusable AI platform components to support existing and future products.
- Working with Microsoft Foundry and Azure cloud services to deploy and operate AI solutions.
- Improving the performance, accuracy, latency and reliability of AI workloads.
- Building and maintaining infrastructure using Terraform and supporting containerised applications.
- Developing CI/CD pipelines and automating data ingestion, embedding generation and vector index maintenance.
- Implementing monitoring, logging and tracing to give visibility into system performance, usage and cost.
- Improving security, governance and evaluation processes across AI systems.
- Working closely with AI Engineering, DevOps and Security teams to take prototypes through to production.
What we're looking for:
- Strong experience in software, platform or infrastructure engineering within production environments.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native services.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience with RAG, LLM integrations, retrieval pipelines or AI-enabled platforms.
- Experience with vector databases or search technologies such as OpenSearch.
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and deploying containerised applications.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and production data workflows, including Azure Data Factory.
- A solid understanding of APIs, microservices and cloud-native architecture.
- A focus on reliability, scalability, performance and operational excellence.
