We are seeking a highly capable Software Development Team Leader to lead and inspire the Qube PM development team in delivering high-quality product enhancements and innovations aligned to MRI’s Core++ and Agora strategies. This role is first and foremost a people and delivery leadership position, focused on setting direction, enabling high performance, and ensuring the team consistently delivers value to the business and our clients. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capability, the ability to coach and develop engineers, and a clear understanding of how software development supports product outcomes. While technical knowledge of Qube PM and modern development practices is important, this role does not require day‑to‑day hands‑on coding; instead, it requires the ability to guide technical decision‑making, remove blockers, and translate strategic objectives into clear delivery priorities. A passion for continuous improvement, collaboration, and the thoughtful adoption of modern technologies—including AI‑enabled tools to improve efficiency and innovation—will be key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Delivery: Lead, mentor, and support the Qube PM development team, providing clear technical direction and fostering a positive, collaborative environment. Guide product development to ensure alignment with MRI’s wider product strategies (Web enablement, Core++ and Agora). Collaborate closely with the Product Management team and shared services teams, ensuring development work reflects product priorities and client needs. Participate in dispute resolution, coaching, and conflict management within the development team. Advocate and model best practices in engineering, quality, security, and documentation. Support career development and performance feedback for team members.
- Technical Contribution: Contribute hands‑on to the development and maintenance of Qube PM features where required. Apply expertise across relevant technologies, including web development, web services, desktop application development, and SQL. Work with the teams to identify technical risks, propose solutions, and help ensure timely delivery of high‑quality releases. Promote the adoption of AI‑assisted development tools and identify opportunities to apply AI within the product to drive innovation and productivity.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with Product Management, QA, Support, App Admin, IT and UX teams to ensure a smooth end‑to‑end development workflow. Maintain strong awareness of Build to Rent and Block Management markets, and real‑world use cases to help shape product direction with enthusiasm for modernisation in line with MRI’s Agora Basic Configuration (ABC’s). Attend the Sleaford office at least two days per month to collaborate in person with the Product and leadership teams. Provide technical insights during roadmap discussions, planning sessions, and backlog refinement.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in software development, with sufficient technical understanding to guide teams, review approaches, and support informed decision‑making (hands‑on coding is not a primary requirement).
- Proven experience leading, coaching, or influencing teams, or clear evidence of readiness and strong motivation to step into a people leadership role, with a genuine commitment to developing and enabling experienced engineers.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and decision‑making skills, with the ability to align teams, manage stakeholders, and address challenges constructively.
- Excellent organisational and delivery capabilities, with experience leading teams to deliver software outcomes within structured development and governance frameworks.
Desirable & Leadership Criteria:
- Strong proficiency in SQL, web services, web development technologies, 4GL, and desktop development environments.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Ability to balance technical depth with strategic thinking.
- Passion for continuous improvement – both team processes and engineering quality.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
- Strong stakeholder management and the ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
- Experience with modern DevOps tooling and CI/CD practices.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms or API‑first architectures.
