The University of Hull is committed to providing a safe, secure and high‑quality environment for students, staff and visitors. As part of this commitment, they are seeking an experienced and proactive Fire Safety Advisor to join their Health and Safety Directorate and play a key role in shaping fire safety across their diverse and complex estate. Hull’s campus spans a wide range of environments, including laboratories, accommodation, teaching spaces, hospitality venues and sports facilities, each presenting unique fire safety challenges.

In this varied setting, you will act as the University’s competent fire safety specialist, supporting and advising Faculties and Services to ensure compliance with legislation while driving continuous improvement and best practice. Working collaboratively across the institution, you will contribute to the development and implementation of the University’s Fire Safety Strategy. You will oversee fire risk assessments and associated action plans, monitor compliance through audits and inspections, and deliver fire safety training to build awareness and capability across the University community.

You will also investigate fire‑related incidents, provide clear recommendations, and support the ongoing development of policies, systems and guidance to ensure a consistent and effective approach to fire safety. We are looking for a qualified fire safety professional (Level 3 or 4 or equivalent) with experience in a large or complex organisation and a strong understanding of fire safety legislation. You will bring the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, translate technical requirements into practical solutions, and take a proactive, analytical approach to improving safety outcomes.
