Senior Building Surveyor
It’s finding new ways to maintain world-famous, historic buildings.
It’s leading and collaborating to deliver every time. And it’s joining the professional business behind the monarchy. This is what makes working for The Royal Household exceptional.
Based at Buckingham Palace, you will play a key role in protecting, maintaining and enhancing the Royal Household’s London Estate, encompassing some of the country’s most iconic historic, listed and occupied buildings.
Leading the Technical Team of Building Surveyors, alongside a highly skilled decorating team and specialist contractors, you will drive the approach to building surveying across the Estate. Your remit will span surveys and inspections, landlord duties, building performance, conservation and maintenance, technical standards and specifications, and the delivery of a varied portfolio of project works.
You’ll also take a leading role in supporting the Royal Household’s Net Zero objectives, driving the emissions reduction strategy across the London Estate. From reviewing energy performance and identifying energy-saving initiatives to developing best practice around sustainable materials and interventions, you’ll help ensure these historic buildings are both protected for future generations and equipped to meet modern sustainability challenges.
Working closely with senior colleagues across Operations, Projects, Facilities and Engineering, you’ll manage budgets, contracts and contractors, ensure statutory compliance and provide specialist technical advice across planned and reactive maintenance. You’ll also support the long‑term planning of the Estate and preparations for major events and functions.
This role will suit an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor with a strong track record of leading building surveying services across complex, occupied estates. Experience of historic and listed buildings will be essential, alongside strong project, contract and budget management expertise. You’ll combine a passion for conservation with a progressive approach to sustainability, energy efficiency and Net Zero.
