The Opportunity
MRD Recruitment is working with a leading UK FMCG manufacturing business to recruit an Engineering Projects & Compliance Manager on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a key role within the site's engineering function, providing the link between project delivery, engineering standards and day-to-day manufacturing operations. You'll take ownership of the engineering aspects of capital and site-led projects, ensuring new equipment, machinery and installations are delivered safely, compliantly and to the required technical standards before being handed over to operations. It's an opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to have a genuine impact within a busy, highly automated manufacturing environment, working alongside project teams, contractors, OEMs and operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering leadership and technical oversight across capital and site-based projects.
- Act as the engineering representative within project meetings, ensuring technical requirements, risks and actions are identified and managed.
- Ensure new machinery, equipment and installations meet relevant engineering, safety and statutory requirements.
- Own and coordinate technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring engineering information is complete and available ahead of operational handover.
- Review technical drawings, documentation, certification and safety information to ensure projects meet required standards.
- Support project governance, tracking engineering deliverables through design, installation, commissioning and handover.
- Work closely with OEMs, contractors and internal engineering teams to resolve technical issues and commissioning snags.
- Ensure new assets are operationally ready, with appropriate procedures, risk assessments, documentation and training in place.
- Support the transition of completed projects into the operational engineering environment.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and use structured problem-solving techniques to resolve recurring technical issues.
- Maintain a strong focus on engineering compliance, safety, reliability and asset performance.
About You
We're looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in manufacturing projects and engineering compliance. You'll ideally have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, supported by a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
- Previous experience within FMCG, food, beverage or another high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience across engineering projects, commissioning and asset handover.
- Strong knowledge of machinery safety, engineering compliance and risk assessment.
- Good understanding of CDM 2015 and relevant statutory requirements.
- Experience managing technical documentation and project engineering files.
- Previous experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Strong IT and data skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience working with contractors, OEMs and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge where required and ensure engineering standards are maintained.
The Person
You'll be a highly organised and methodical engineer who enjoys taking ownership and seeing projects through from start to finish. You'll have a completer-finisher mentality, with the attention to detail required to identify gaps in technical documentation, compliance and project delivery. You'll also be comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, managing competing priorities and working collaboratively with engineering, operations, project teams and external partners. Experience with structured continuous improvement and root-cause analysis techniques would also be beneficial.

- Salary of up to £63,000, depending on experience
- 12-month fixed-term contract
- Monday-Friday working pattern
- Comprehensive benefits package
