Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Scientist positions in the laboratory of Dr Ramanujan Hegde at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). To work on one of two projects within a programme aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of protein maturation, quality control, and protein aggregation diseases.

  • Project 1: to investigate the process of protein quality control during the assembly of proteins and protein complexes.
  • Project 2: to investigate the process by which complex membrane proteins are inserted and assembled correctly at the endoplasmic reticulum.

Applicants should have a PhD or be due to complete a PhD within six months, in a subject relevant to the envisioned projects such as biochemistry, structural biology, or biophysics. Essential skills for both projects are a high level of proficiency with protein purification and biophysical characterization and experience with structure determination of proteins and analysis and interpretation of protein structures.

Additionally for project 1, experience with cell biological assays, including mammalian cell culture and genetic manipulation and a knowledge of the biology of the endoplasmic reticulum and chaperones is required. For project 2, experience with in vitro reconstitution of protein function using biochemical and biophysical assays is a requirement.

These are three-year training and development positions suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills.
