Location: Midhurst Rother College. Midhurst Rother College serves students from 11 to 19 years of age, situated in the market town of Midhurst at the heart of West Sussex, covering a rural catchment of 400 square miles.

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and inspirational Head of Music to lead the Music Department at our Ofsted outstanding (May 2024) school. The successful candidate will be responsible for raising achievement, overseeing our two choirs, orchestra, jazz band and other ensembles, managing the calendar of events, and delivering curriculum leadership across key stages.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and inspire the Music Department
  • Oversee the development and performance of choirs, orchestra, jazz band, and other ensembles
  • Plan and coordinate a busy calendar of internal and external events, including a bi-annual music tour
  • Provide curriculum leadership and support to teachers at all key stages
  • Drive progress and attainment in GCSE, A Level, and BTEC level 3 Music
  • Maintain high standards of rehearsal and performance practice

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Experience leading a music department in a secondary school setting
  • Strong instructional and coaching skills at all key stages
  • Evidence of innovative practice and curriculum development
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and welfare of students
