Restructuring Lawyer (non fee earning) – Leading Law Firm – London

A leading international law firm is seeking a Restructuring Lawyer to join its Tactical Opportunities team.

This opportunity would suit a qualified lawyer with experience in restructuring, high yield or leveraged finance who is looking to apply their legal expertise in a more commercial role.

Working closely with Restructuring Partners and a team that includes former bankers and consultants, you will identify and analyse companies across Europe that may require restructuring advice. You will combine legal knowledge with commercial analysis to help develop opportunities with companies, sponsors and lenders, with substantial client contact and autonomy to research your own companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and monitoring companies that may become restructuring candidates, tracking developments in their businesses and financing arrangements
  • Maintaining detailed company watchlists and highlighting potential opportunities to the Restructuring Partners
  • Analysing financial and capital structures, drawing on your legal experience to assess potential restructuring considerations
  • Producing clear, commercially focused analysis and materials to support client discussions and pitches
  • Working with Partners to develop opportunities to advise companies, private equity sponsors and lenders
  • Contributing to client discussions and communicating complex information clearly to a range of audiences
  • Taking ownership of research into individual companies while collaborating closely with the wider Tactical Opportunities team

About You:

  • A qualified lawyer, ideally with 2-3 years' PQE in restructuring, high yield or leveraged finance
  • Experience of financial restructuring or financing transactions, with exposure to private equity-backed businesses, sponsors or lenders particularly relevant
  • A strong understanding of financing arrangements and an interest in how capital structures influence a company’s options
  • A commercial outlook and curiosity about businesses, credit markets and potential restructuring situations
  • Strong research, analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to turn complex information into concise, practical insights
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage with Partners, colleagues and clients
  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work independently and contribute ideas within a collaborative team
  • An interest in continuing to use your legal expertise while developing a career focused on commercial analysis and identifying opportunities
