The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for managing comprehensive property accounting functions, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, accounts receivable and payable, internal audits, and both cash and accrual accounting. This role collaborates with property managers, project managers, and lenders to ensure timely, accurate reporting, budgeting, and financial compliance for our commercial real estate portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reporting packages, including financial statements, variance analysis, and supporting schedules for assigned properties.
  • Maintain accurate financial records across multiple property portfolios in a multi-entity environment.
  • Perform full-cycle property accounting: journal entries, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Reconcile bank and general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies.
  • Manage and audit tenant accounts to ensure accurate billing per lease agreements.
  • Analyze and prepare tenant operating expense and real estate tax escalations, including monthly billings and annual true-ups.
  • Prepare Common Area Maintenance (CAM) and real estate tax reconciliations, reports, and tenant settlement invoices.
  • Partner with Property Management to complete tenant reconciliations for operating expenses, taxes, utilities, and other recoverable costs.
  • Review, code, and process vendor invoices and accounts payable transactions.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation, forecasting, and reforecasting with asset management and other departments.
  • Prepare draw requests, funding documentation for lenders, and follow up on reserve disbursements.
  • Maintain tenant and lease records in Yardi property management software, including rental rate changes and tenant moves.
  • Support property acquisitions, dispositions, and closings with financial reports and documentation.
  • Provide schedules and documentation for annual financial audits and tax preparation.
  • Respond to financial inquiries and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Maintain full accountability for property-level Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets.
  • Manage accounting for multi-parcel, multi-tenant, multi-lender development projects, including property, capital, project, and tax accounting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of commercial real estate/property accounting experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of month-end close processes, reconciliations, and journal posting/review.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Yardi experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Previous management experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail.
