We are seeking a hands-on Management Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day management accounts function within a fast-paced SME environment. This role is ideal for a commercially minded accountant who enjoys being close to the numbers, supporting operational teams, and driving financial control and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full production of monthly management accounts
  • Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Cashflow forecasting and working capital control
  • Nominal ledger control, journals, accruals & prepayments
  • Stock analysis, aged stock reporting and margin analysis
  • Supplier payments, credit control and debtor management
  • VAT returns and HMRC compliance
  • Financial KPI reporting for senior management
  • FX exposure monitoring and currency risk awareness
  • Partnering with non-finance stakeholders across operations and supply chain
  • Supporting year-end audit preparation
  • Driving process improvements across finance systems and controls
  • Supporting implementation and development of Sage accounting systems

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong experience in a hands-on Management Accountant / Finance Manager role
  • Background within manufacturing, supply chain, engineering or SME environments
  • Confident managing management accounts, cashflow, stock, budgets and VAT
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Experience with Sage accounting software
  • Confident working closely with MDs, Operations and Supply Chain teams
  • Commercially aware and highly organised
  • Comfortable working in a business where finance is central to decision-making

Qualifications

  • CIMA (studying or completed), ACCA (studying or completed)
  • AAT Qualified
  • Or equivalent hands-on management accounting experience

Role Positioning

This is a true Management Accountant role, not a Finance Director or Head of Finance position. The focus is firmly on delivery, control, reporting and business support. There is no requirement for full strategic board ownership and no mandatory people management responsibilities.
