Transport Manager - The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to lead the development, performance and continuous improvement of our transport operation. Reporting into senior management, you will be responsible for compliance with operator licence requirements, transport legislation and fleet maintenance standards, while driving efficiency, service excellence and cost control.

You will manage and motivate a team of drivers, plan and coordinate routes and schedules, and act as the main point of contact for customer queries relating to transport and delivery. Transport Manager - Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, audit and continuously improve transport compliance systems, ensuring full adherence to Operator Licence requirements and statutory record retention
  • Investigate compliance issues, annual test failures, prohibitions and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Ensure all vehicles and trailers are maintained in safe, roadworthy and legally compliant condition, managing inspection schedules and statutory testing requirements
  • Verify that all drivers hold correct licences, Driver CPC qualifications and relevant certifications, monitoring compliance through telematics systems
  • Reviews and implements Driver training plans for the year in accordance with both business targets and CPC requirements.
  • Plans transport routes for delivery and collections
  • Develop and implement annual driver training plans, deliver regular briefings and build strong relationships promoting a positive safety culture
  • Communicate with vehicle drivers, ensuring that they are kept up to date with legislative or company policy changes and customer requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve transport efficiency and reduce operating costs, supporting FORS Silver accreditation and achieving FORS Gold status

Transport Manager - You:

  • National CPC Qualification Holder with Transport Manager CPC Refresher Training completed within the last 5 years
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Proven experience in a Transport Manager or similar fleet management role with strong working knowledge of UK transport legislation and operator licensing
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams, excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Self-motivated, professional, ethical and committed to maintaining high standards with a proactive approach to Health and Safety and risk management
  • Demonstrable experience in fleet maintenance compliance management and evidence of ongoing professional development
