We are seeking an experienced Payroll Clerk / Accounts Assistant to complement our existing friendly Accounts team based at our Headoffice in Strood. This position is currently designated as a temporary position (to cover 1 year maternity leave) but may be offered as a permanent position subject to our Accounting departments re‑structure. We are a highly successful, UK-wide auto servicing group with over 29 managed sites and you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the Company’s monthly payroll using SAGE 50.
As an Accounts Assistant you will work as part of the accounts team providing support in all aspects of the departmental duties using Sage 200 ERM software.
Main Tasks
- Accurate and timely processing of the end to end Monthly Payroll using Sage 50 that includes:
- Collation of all documentation onto master matrix
- Calculating variable complex bonus schemes
- Setting up new starter files
- Processing P11D’s, P45s and P60s
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and internal policies
- Accurate entries into the organisations ledgers
- Maintain auxiliary files & sub-systems in good order
- Supplier statement balance reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with VAT and account regulations
- Prepare schedules and analysis of expenses
- Assist with reporting, audit preparation, and ad‑hoc project work
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 2 years experience in similar role
- Excellent Sage 50 payroll knowledge with a minimum of 2 years hands‑on processing experience
- Knowledge of Sage 200 ERM software or similar
- Experience of processing invoices
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion
- All round team player
This position is not suited to a trainee and only those applicants who can demonstrate solid experience and a thorough understanding of monthly payroll processing using Sage 50 should apply.
