As Marqeta’s People Business Partner - EU/UK, you support Marqeta’s teams in the European region to help build strong regional cultures, navigate day-to-day employee situations, and help build the overall Marqetan experience. You serve as our European People Business Partner, supporting our operations across the UK, Gibraltar, Malta, and Poland. You also act as the primary People Business Partner for our GTM UK team, and the EU/UK region. You work cross-functionally to support employees, leaders, and our offices to ensure compliance with local regulations and cultural nuances across multiple European markets. You collaborate closely with US-based People Business Partners who are functionally aligned to our global C-level leaders, ensuring that our European teams align with our global strategy while also having dedicated local support. This role reports to the Head of Global People Business Partners.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a hybrid role and requires employees to be based within 35 miles of our London office. You will be expected to work on-site two days a week, on Tuesday and Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on the other days.

The Impact You'll Have

  • Act as the regional People Business Partner: Serve as the primary People Business Partner for EU markets and the GTM UK team, providing guidance across all of Marqeta’s teams in the UK, Gibraltar, Malta, and Poland. This role requires close partnership with the functional People Business Partners to ensure team member decisions align with company and functional people priorities.
  • Accelerate business performance: Coach and consult with leaders of people and employees, aligning Marqeta local people initiatives with business priorities.
  • Drive company-wide alignment and efficiency: Foster seamless cross-functional collaboration across Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Total Rewards, People Business Partners, and People Operations - ensuring cohesive execution of people priorities for the region.
  • Elevate manager effectiveness: Coach managers on day-to-day employee situations, overall employee experience, and ensure people initiatives drive business growth and transformation.
  • Lead regional people initiatives: Provide local expertise and execute initiatives such as performance management.
  • Monitor compliance & risk management: Ensure People practices comply with local employment laws, regulations, and cultural expectations across all our markets - partnering with Legal and Compliance teams on regulatory requirements.
  • Employee Relations: Manage employee relations matters and performance management issues; serve as the point-of-contact for EU market employee concerns. Act as the primary point of contact and leader for employee related investigations at Marqeta.
  • Culture Champion: Foster a high-performance culture that aligns with company values while respecting local market differences.
  • People Policies: Partner to develop and implement region-specific People policies and programs; adapt global programs for local market relevance.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with country leadership, and global People team to ensure alignment and knowledge sharing.

Who You Are

  • Experience: You have 8+ years of progressive People Business Partner experience with demonstrated expertise in European employment and cultural nuances; at least 2 years working as a People Business Partner at a global company headquartered in the US.
  • Problem Solver: You have an analytical mindset and a deep understanding of organisational dynamics. You uncover root causes and use data and intuition to guide your approach.
  • Owner: You act with purpose and accountability. You align people initiatives to strategic priorities, balancing short-term business needs with long-term organisational health. You keep stakeholders informed, manage risk proactively, and always deliver with integrity.
  • Collaborator: You build strong partnerships rooted in trust, transparency, and shared goals with the broader People Experience team. You easily navigate global, cross-functional relationships.
  • Doer: You act with urgency and intention. You’re comfortable rolling up your sleeves to execute and get the work done.
