An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our established team at Tedd Engineering. The Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for developing, testing, and optimising software across a variety of embedded platforms, ranging from small microcontrollers to complex Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) using Qt/QML. This role involves writing efficient, high-quality code, integrating hardware and software components, and ensuring system reliability and performance across diverse embedded environments.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop safety-critical, real-time embedded software for use in large-scale mobile machinery, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Design and develop robust, high-performance applications using the Qt framework and QML, ensuring a seamless user experience and efficient software architecture.
  • Work closely with programmers, designers, and stakeholders to define project requirements, streamline development processes, and ensure the timely achievement of key milestones.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that adheres to best practices and coding standards.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues in existing applications, ensuring effective and timely fixes.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends through continuous research and learning.
  • Foster and maintain strong communication within MPP Global teams, including Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain, to promote best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with health and safety standards within the department.
  • Execute special projects as needed, with the flexibility to support other areas of the business based on operational or customer requirements.

Background and Experience

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming.
  • Knowledge of embedded communications (e.g. CAN, LIN).
  • Experience in developing applications using the Qt framework and QML programming language.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as SVN / Git.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience developing applications for embedded systems.
  • Willing to travel for machine testing, primarily to Northern Ireland, with occasional trips to other countries.

Desirable

  • Experience with cross-platform development using Qt.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
