Overview

The Open University is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Earth System Sciences experienced in the use of computer modelling, and are specifically looking for someone who is equally adept at working within modern ecological and environmental systems, as well as geological systems.

In addition to computer modelling, you will have a strong research and/or teaching background in at least two the following areas: environmental and/or climate modelling; development of innovative Earth systems models; development and/or application of innovative climate-sensitive proxies; environmental statistics; evolutionary biology; quantification of ecosystem services and/or natural capital.

Your will use your technical expertise to help develop and enhance how we teach environmental modelling that maximizes the potential offered by online and distance learning. You will also be expected to secure external research funding and contribute to future REF submissions aligned with Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences. In REF2014, 77% of the School’s research outputs were assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent (4* or 3*) for overall quality and for impact.
