Open-ended job vacancy at British Antarctic Survey in Physical Oceanography. The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.
Location: Cambridge
Purpose: To study circulation, mixing and dynamics in the polar oceans, using a combination of observational data and output from models, and assess the implications for global climate. To lead a significant element of the Open Oceans workpackage with BAS, with line and task management of staff.
Duties:
- Analyse observational data and model output from the polar oceans
- Undertake studies to investigate ocean dynamics in polar regions and their impact on climate
- Participate in research cruises as required
- Present research results in international refereed journals and present at conferences
- Develop and submit grant proposals that enhance the Open Oceans workpackage and open up new lines of enquiry
Qualifications: Good first degree in physical science/mathematics plus PhD or equivalent postgraduate experience in same

- Salary: Salary will be in the range of £30,170 to £37,120 per annum. We offer a generous benefits package including a defined salary pension scheme, free car parking, flexible working hours and 30 days annual leave.
