Our client based in Lymington has a requirement for an experienced SMT Technician to join their busy manufacturing business as a Cell Lead. The main scope of the role will be to run your production cell to achieve on-time delivery of customer orders and safety stock demand. When requested you will be responsible for the running of the production cells to achieve the delivery targets against the production plan. This will entail the day-to-day administration and organisation of the manufacturing cell in terms of people and documentation.

The Cell Lead will ensure that the team members manufacture and assemble products in a safe manner to meet planned delivery times, cost and quality requirements. The main duties will include:

  • Support the Manufacturing and Team Leaders in all aspects of running the production cell to ensure that high quality product is delivered on time.
  • When required, work autonomously in terms of running the production cell under the authorisation of the Manufacturing Lead or Team Leader.
  • When required, manage the administration of production paperwork in line with the production plan. This will entail the acceptance of sales orders, training and closing off of work orders and archiving.
  • Ensure that the assembly operatives correctly follow production and safety instructions and build the product to the highest standards.
  • Help identify training requirements of team members to ensure that all team members are multi-skilled and that they can be moved when required to other cells to meet the overall production plan.
  • Help to train team members in the assembly, test techniques and test data recording necessary to meet product specifications and company quality standards.
  • Ensure that every production stage or skill within their cell have coverage in the event of anyone’s absence.
  • Completion of return-to-work documentation after a team member's absence, probation reviews and manage staffing matters with assistance from other members of the management team.

Applicants will need an understanding of electronics, with SMT knowledge being a distinct advantage. Previous experience of running a department in an electronics production environment would also be beneficial. You must also have the ability to read and understand work instructions and engineering drawings. You must be able to lead by example and remain professional whilst championing continuous improvement and change management.

This is a permanent position with an immediate start available for the right candidate. Hours of work are 37.5 per week, with a pattern of 07:30 am to 16:15 pm Monday to Thursday and 07:30 am till 12:00 pm on a Friday. The starting salary will be £27,000 per annum.
