The Opportunity

Mploy Group is recruiting for a Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Cheltenham. This is a newly created position within an expanding organisation that designs and manufactures technically advanced machinery and engineered systems for customers across the UK and international markets.

Working closely with the Production Manager and wider engineering and manufacturing teams, you will take ownership of day-to-day purchasing, supplier coordination and inventory control, ensuring materials and components are available when required to keep production running efficiently. The role would suit someone with experience in a manufacturing, engineering, machinery, automation or similar technical environment who enjoys taking responsibility and improving the way purchasing and stock processes are managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing requirements alongside the Production Manager, ensuring materials and components are available in line with production schedules.
  • Manage the full purchasing cycle, including raising purchase orders, checking pricing, coordinating approvals and updating internal systems.
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding quotations, pricing, availability, lead times and outstanding orders.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues relating to quality, cost discrepancies, shortages and delivery delays.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory information within company systems and update the inventory database daily.
  • Monitor stock levels and identify current and future purchasing requirements.
  • Carry out cycle counts, spot checks and month-end inventory reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve stock and inventory discrepancies.
  • Work closely with production, engineering and other internal teams to understand upcoming material requirements.
  • Produce purchasing, inventory and supplier performance reports for management.
  • Support inventory audits and provide accurate findings, data and metrics.
  • Help develop and improve purchasing, supplier and inventory control processes as the business grows.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience within purchasing, procurement, inventory control, materials planning or supply chain.
  • Experience within an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment would be highly advantageous.
  • Good understanding of purchasing processes, supplier management and inventory control.
  • Strong database, systems and data management skills.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical ability with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisation with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident communicating with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to identifying problems and implementing solutions.
  • Full UK driving licence.
